The old rumour that electric heating is expensive is simply not true when one takes into account the high installation and maintenance costs of other types of heating.
In most areas, the low-cost off-peak electricity tariffs compare favourably with the cost of natural gas, oil and LPG. However, where electric heaters beat other types of heating systems is with their low installation and almost zero maintenance costs.
Gas heating boilers are expensive to install, need regular maintenance and annual servicing by qualified engineers, and have a relatively limited life, sometimes as low as five years. Spare parts can also be expensive. Our electric heaters, on the other hand, are inexpensive to install, cost next-to-nothing in maintenance and servicing costs, and have a long life-expectancy.
More significant is the fact that our modern society requires a 24-hour supply of electricity to power lights, household appliances, hospitals, homes and offices, so even at off-peak times, power stations have to be kept ticking over, necessitating them to operate at these times below their optimum efficiency levels. Therefore to utilize this off-peak power for domestic heating could be seen to be making more efficient use of a power supply that would otherwise be going to waste. Electric radiant heating is 100% energy efficient and has less long-term environmental impact than other fuels therefore making it a greener alternative to other types of heating products.
